just like senior Anjali did, when she was asked if she ‘likes’ Rahul, cuz he was her best friend, yaar. So I watched Kuch Kuch Hota Hai when I was all of 8, yes, the same age as junior Anjali – toh meri hobbies also included chocolate khana and ladko ko thappad maarna – well, not exactly thappad – but that was more or less the age when if someone would tease me about a boy, I’d go cheeeee…. ‘Rahul & Anjali’ defined ‘cool’ back in ’98, but then something changed. The two were so much fun together, they made girls want to have a guy best friend and vice-versa.
And just like real best friends, they played basketball, poked fun at one another, fought like cats and dogs, but at the end of the day, could not live without each other. Over two decades ago, when ‘Jai & Aditi’ were probably in school, unaware of each other’s existence – we were introduced to two college students, a boy and a girl – who, we were told, were best friends.
